This artifact was the result of solving a simulated client request, in which I was required to plan and develop an entire music festival. The requirements included choosing: date and location of festival; theme of festival; festival slogan; number of performers and types of performers; order of performances; etc. The final product was a double-sided, legal-size poster that was attractive, user-friendly, and stylized to be used in several different contexts. To have the most amount of customization, I created the poster using InDesign.

InDesign tools and techniques used:

•Custom font (Tuffy)

•Pen tool for tracing

•Smooth tool to fix hard lines

•Stroke and Fill tools to create graphics

•Scissors tool to cut and resize lines

•Baseline shift to create custom bullet points

•Custom color palate used throughout

While the process of planning and developing an entire music festival was a challenge, the finished product exceeded both the clients expectations as well as my own. The end result proves my ability to create an attractive, user-friendly poster, from scratch, using InDesign as a mode of production. More importantly, my success demonstrates my ability to understand the needs of the user and carefully incorporate those needs into the design of the document.

I’ve incorporated my knowledge about international communication into this document through:

•Universal conventions

•Limited amounts of color

•Simple shapes

•Gender-neutral graphics

-Illustructions Project

This artifact was the result of fulfilling a simulated client request. The idea was to design and develop a set of wordless instructions for the “Wonderlight Apparatus” that would be used by agricultural researchers and scientists all over the world. The end result was two 8.5” x 11” sheets of paper that would be laminated and glued to the side of the Wonderlight Apparatus to help safely guide a first time user through the operation process. To make the document clear and simple to understand, it was created using InDesign.

The process of visually communicating instructions was an awesome project that challenged the way each individual interprets a picture. By incorporating familiar shapes and conventions, the end result was a set of instructions that could safely take a first time user through the process. Communicating cross-culturally has become a standard in society, but we need to be conscious about the ways in which we communicate across cultures. Because of my knowledge about international communication, I can deliver clear, concise content, in a variety of formats that will appeal to a global audience.
